Challenge Rules
How Scoop Loops works, and how a run makes the leaderboard.
Core Challenge Rules
The goal: Run a loop that visits three or five ice cream shops and eat one serving at each — all in a single continuous activity.
🧡 Spirit of the Challenge
Yes, there are rules — but Scoop Loops is meant to be fun. You’re running, exploring your community, eating ice cream, and probably questioning your life choices somewhere around scoop four. Enjoy it. Laugh. Take silly photos. Celebrate the absurdity.
Whether you’re chasing the leaderboard or just out for a joyful sugar‑powered adventure, have fun out there.
How the Loop Works
- Start at any of the identified shops in your region and begin your GPS recording outside the shop.
- Run to your first different ice cream shop and eat your first scoop there.
- Continue running from shop to shop, eating one scoop at each stop.
- Five Scoop Loop: Visit all five shops in any order you choose, then return to your starting shop to eat your fifth and final scoop.
- Three Scoop Loop: Choose any three of the five shops (strategy matters), visit two additional shops after your start, then return to your starting shop to eat your third and final scoop.
- Keep your GPS recording running until you’ve finished your final scoop.
- Your run must be recorded as one continuous GPS activity. Manual pauses, auto‑pause, device switching, or suspicious GPS jumps may disqualify leaderboard attempts.
Ice Cream Requirements
- Minimum: one scoop (a “small”) or equivalent dairy‑free/vegan option.
- Ice cream must be purchased on‑site — no ordering ahead.
- Consume the entire serving on the premises (seating area, patio, or designated outdoor space).
- No sharing servings between runners.
- Soft‑serve or hard‑serve both count.
Proof Requirements
- Take a photo or video at each shop showing:
- You (or your hand/face) with the ice cream, and
- A clearly identifiable feature of the shop.
- Photos/videos must be taken during the run, not before or after.
Submit Your Run
- A public activity link (Strava, Garmin, etc.)
- A photo at each shop, or a link to an Instagram/YouTube post containing them
- A GPX file
- Optional: a selfie at the final shop
- Group runs: each runner submits their own activity and photos
- Submit your results
Safety & Conduct
- Follow all traffic laws and run safely.
- Respect shop staff and customers.
- Clean up any trash.
- Arriving before opening or after closing invalidates that stop.
- If a shop is crowded, be patient — don’t pressure staff or customers.
Leaderboards
- Each region has two leaderboards, ranked by finish time: the Five Scoop Loop and the Three Scoop Loop.
- Five Scoop Loop runs must visit all five designated shops for that region.
- Three Scoop Loop runs may visit any three of that region’s shops.
- Submissions may be audited. Runs with unclear evidence or GPS issues may be removed.
Didn’t finish?
No shame in a shop being closed or a loop cut short. Share your attempt on Instagram with #scooploops and celebrate the effort.
